What is Scabies: Scabies symptoms & causes
Scabies is a skin infestation and itchy condition that is caused by small mites known as Sarcoptes scabiel. These mites burrow into the top layer of your skin and lay their eggs.It causes irritation, rashes & itching and spread it to other parts of your body.
Scabies is contagious & spread easily through skin to skin contact or through close physical contact & may be transmitted through sharing clothes or bedding.
Symptoms-
- Most common and severe symptoms of scabies is having itching which gets even more worse at night.
- Pimples like rashes.
- Blisters or bumps on your skin.
- Scaly, scabbed or thick skin.
The areas most commonly affected by scabies includes:
- Around the waist.
- Around the breasts.
- Between fingers and toes.
- On elbows.
- On the knees.
Causes-
The mites of scabies are very small and cannot be seen with the naked eyes. Female mites burrow beneath the skin & lay eggs causing rashes and itching. Close skin contact, living together, sharing clothes or bedding easily transmit the itching causing mites from one person to another.
Animal mites cannot affect the humans, thus scabies cannot be spread through the animals. Scabies can easily spread in crowded areas; prisons, nursing homes and many other places where people live together. To prevent it stay away from close contact with the infected person, sharing clothes & bedding and take proper treatment for the itching, rashes and skin irritation.
